Has the Cadillac CTS been replaced by the CT5-V?
January 18 2022,
The Cadillac CTS is no more, but the end of its production also marks the launch of a brand new model in 2020: the Cadillac CT5.
Some may say that the CT5 is here to replace the CTS, while others believe that these are two different cars in the same segment: so what is the real story?
Cadillac Laval tells you all about the differences between the Cadillac CTS and the CT5, and we take the opportunity to showcase the CT5.

Different sizes and price
The arrival of one coincides with the departure of the other. The CTS and the CT5 share plenty of features, but they are also very different in many ways.
On the one hand, both vehicles are luxury sedans built on the Alpha platform. Their dimensions are similar, although the CT5 is slightly shorter and wider than its predecessor.
It is also more affordable with a starting price under $40,000. The CTS had a starting price of over $45,000.
In fact, when it comes to size and price, many experts find it comparable to the ATS.
On the other hand, both of these vehicles feature very different styles. While the design of the CTS was very divisive, the CT5 relies on more traditional brand design choices and delivers a much more modern look.
Similar Engines
Like its supposed predecessor, the CT5 offers all-wheel drive on option and several engines to choose from. The entry-level version is powered by a 2.0 L 4-cylinder engine which cranks out 237 horsepower. The engine of the discontinued CTS delivered 268 horsepower.
However, the CT5 also offers a very powerful V-series version that is more comparable to the CTS: the CT5-V is powered by a fiery 3.0 L V6 engine with 360 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque.
The CT5-V Blackwing, for its part, is powered by a huge V8 engine that is beyond powerful. It even surpasses the CTS-V with an incredible 668 horsepower and 659 lb-ft of torque; for comparison, the outgoing model had 640 horsepower and 630 lb-ft of torque.
In fact, it will be the fastest vehicle in Cadillac's history: you can’t miss out on this one!
Packed With Advanced Technologies
Once you step inside, you will realize this is a completely different sedan than what the CTS could ever be.
The previous 8-inch infotainment system was somewhat hard to use, but it has been replaced by a 10-inch touchscreen with a scroll wheel, voice control and steering wheel controls for simplified use.
This is a complete package of state-of-the-art technologies, and the new Super Cruise optional feature is a very welcomed addition. It offers semi-autonomous driving so you can enjoy greater peace of mind on long trips.
In short, the CT5 may not be the exact replacement of the CTS, but it is similar yet better in many ways, particularly in its use of advanced technologies.
